Second Lieutenant John Baird

John Baird enlisted in the North Irish Horse between 5 and 16 November 1914 (No.1344, later Corps of Hussars No.71345).

He embarked for France with F Squadron of the North Irish Horse on 17 November 1915.

It appears that he left the squadron at some point prior to August 1917, perhaps returning to the base depot at Antrim after a period of illness or recovering from wounds.

In the latter part of 1917 he applied for a commission. After a period of training at an officer cadet school he was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant on 6 April 1918 and posted to the 2nd Reserve Cavalry Regiment.

After the war he was living at 14 Glenarm Avenue, Drumcondra, Dublin.
